Linen clothing

Zoals jullie misschien al weten is de kledingindustrie één van de meest vervuilende industrieën en dan heb ik het nog niet eens over de arbeidsomstandigheden. Er zijn steeds meer leuke merken die alternatieven aanbieden. Ik geef toe dat ik nog steeds zwicht voor H&M, Zara en Mango maar ik probeer zeker voor mijn basics eerst te kijken naar biologisch katoen. Iets wat bijna elk merk nu aanbiedt. Maar toch schiet het niet op en gooien we jaarlijks heel veel kleding weg. Zowel als consument alsmede de bedrijven. Dus wat is een fijn alternatief wat ook nog eens mooi is? Waar je oprecht blij van wordt en waarschijnlijk ook langer zal dragen dan één seizoen?

Mijn antwoord zijn onderstaande merken. Veelal werken zij met linnen. Linnen is een milieuvriendelijke stof omdat er bijna geen chemicaliën nodig zijn om het te verbouwen. Het is duurzaam, het gaat vaak lang mee en veel van deze linnen wordt verbouwd in Europa waar niet alleen strengere mileuwetten gelden maar ook vaak beter werkomstandigheden zijn.

Ik heb bij bijna elke shop besteld ( je bent kledingverslaafd of je bent het niet) en dit tot grote tevredenheid.

- Not perfect linen, deze Etsy shop is razend populair en ik heb twee zomerjurken die ik helemaal afdraag. Het collar shirt staat nog op mijn verlanglijst.

- Linenfox, tafelkleden, jurken en servetten, ik word heel blij van dit mooie merk en van hun Instagram account. 

- Made by Muku, ik heb ooit een prachtige jurk bij hen besteld. Je werd toen niet op de hoogte gehouden van de levertijd waar ik het zweet van kreeg. Maar de jurk kwam en ik heb hem heel veel gedragen. 

- Seaside Tones, nog niet besteld maar zowel de groene jas, hoed, ketting en keramiek staan op mijn verlanglijst. 

- Timeless linen, een Nederlands merk, ik volg hen al langere tijd op Instagram dus ik zal binnenkort vast wat bestellen anders houd ik mijn verslaving niet in stand. Zij bieden ook kleding voor de allerkleinsten aan.

- Elizabeth Suzann, buiten Europa maar ik ben echt heel groot fan. Hoe zij verteld over haar bedrijf, visie en medewerkers. Hoe haar design het echt hebben en hoe gelukkig ik was hoe mijn Clyde jacket binnenkwam. Je voelt je echt betrokken bij het merk en je kunt de kleding daardoor ook goed tweedehands verkopen. Let wel dat je in Nederland nog de inkomstenbelasting moet betalen en die is echt heel hoog. 

- Le muse, nog niet iets zelf gekocht maar het ziet er mooi uit. Vooral hun pyama’s.

As you probably know, the clothing industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, and then I haven’t even mentioned the working conditions yet. But more and more there are some great brands emerging that offer alternatives. I will admit that I still buy stuff at H&M, Zara and Mango, but I do try to at least first look for clothes made from organic cotton for my basics. Which is something that nearly every brand now has. And yet it doesn’t seem to help at all and we still throw too much clothing away each year. This goes for both the consumers as well as the companies and businesses. So, what are some good alternatives that are also still pretty and something you actually want to wear? Something that makes you genuinely happy and you can wear for longer than just the one season?

My answer is the brands listed below. They mostly work with linen. Linen is a natural fibre, because there are barely any chemicals needed to produce it. It is durable, and last longer, and a lot of it is actually made in Europe, where there aren’t only stricter rules concerning the environment, but the working conditions are much better as well.

I have ordered at least once from nearly all of these shops (you’re addicted to shopping or you’re not) and was a happy customer with all of them.

• Not Perfect Linen, this Etsy shop is incredibly popular, and for good reason. I have two summer dresses from there, that I will wear till they’re completely worn out. The collar shirt is still on my wish list.

• Linenfox, table cloths, dresses and napkins, I always get incredibly happy because of this brand and their Instagram account.

• Made by Muku, once I ordered this one gorgeous dress from here that I adore. Back then, you didn’t get notified about the delivery time or kept up-to-date about it, which caused me a lot of stress. But the dress was delivered and I have worn it really too many times since then.

• Seaside Tones, I haven’t ordered from them yet, but the green coat, hat, necklace, and pottery is on my wish list too.

• Timeless Linen, this is a Dutch brand that I’ve been following on Instagram for a very long time now, so I’ll probably be ordering something from them very soon, or I won’t be keeping up with my shopping addiction. They also have clothes on offer for children.

• Elizabeth Suzann, this one is located outside of Europe, but I am a big fan anyway. The way she talks about her company, her vision and employees, how her designs work so well and how happy it made me when my Clyde jacket finally arrived. You really feel a part of the brand and because of that you can also get these clothes second hand very well. Do be aware that in The Netherlands you will still have to pay an income tax which is really high.

• Le Muse, I haven’t bought anything there yet but their products look lovely, especially their nightwear.
